The Effect of Electronic Mind Map-Based Learning on Increasing the Academic Achievement of Art Education Department Students in the Teaching Methods Course
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effect of electronic mind map-based learning on increasing the academic achievement of Art Education Department students in the "Teaching Methods" course. To achieve this objective, a quasi-experimental approach was adopted, utilizing an equivalent two-group design (experimental and control) with pre- and post-tests. The research sample comprised (22) third-year undergraduate male and female students in the Department of Art Education at the College of Fine Arts, University of Basrah, during the academic year (2025–2026). The participants were divided equally into two equivalent groups: an experimental group of (11) students taught using the electronic mind-mapping strategy, and a control group of (11) students taught using the traditional method. To fulfill the research objectives, a 20-item objective multiple-choice achievement test was constructed. Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS software. The results revealed statistically significant differences at the (0.05) level between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups in the post-achievement test, in favor of the experimental group. This indicates that integrating electronic mind maps significantly enhanced students' academic achievement and facilitated the organization and retrieval of concepts. The study concluded that the electronic mind-mapping strategy constitutes an effective visual learning model that aligns with the cognitive perception of art education students and enhances structured comprehension of the course material. Consequently, the research recommended adopting electronic mind maps in teaching theoretical courses within the college and training academic staff on mind-mapping design software. It also suggested conducting similar studies to examine the effect of this strategy on other variables, such as visual and creative thinking, as well as applying it to various practical and applied courses.
